Cube-critique of the film

Flipping through channels I inadvertently caught this movie. My husband tells me oh this is a good movie, it's about people trapped in cubes trying to find their way out.

"Uh huh" says I, start any conversation like that I show little interest, probably some past life experience of being buried alive or claustrophobia that I am unaware of.

That being said I watched the movie nontheless and was pulled into the drama.

You basically have no background scenery at all just neon white lit cubes and several actors. The writing and acting is so great that you don't want to go to the bathroom because you might miss something pertinent to the movie. It is a scary idea to think of yourself one moment in your home, bed, car, office and the next a part of a twisted experiment gone wrong.......

Spooky, but you will definitely be amused by this flic.

In the Cube

I have watched all three Cube movies on video (Cube, Hypercube, and now Cube Zero, which just came out on video this week.) Have any of them been shown in the cinema? I noticed that the first two Cube movies had basically the same plot. The third one was slightly different because it gave the perspective of the employees who were operating the cube for the government/military.

The Cube movies are dark, but I never get scared from the gore in the traps because it's very unrealistic. I like the traps the best because you never know what's going to happen when the captives enter a new room. My favourite traps: the ones that speed up or slow down time. Cool. That would be neat.

The Cube movies show that Canadians can still tell a good story even with a low budget.

Outside the Cube

This psychological thriller loves to shake up the brain, always keeping it on it's toes. There's always a cunning twist behind each door. As we watch each individual struggle to survive phisically and mentally as they search to find the exit from the cube, they only seem to encouter inescabable traps and more empty rooms.

Each person has been placed inside the cube for a purpose or a roll. As the movie progresses, their rolls become aparant. However, since they are all put under the tremendous stress of figuring their way out before the lack of water kills them, personalities start to clash and trouble ignites.

The Cube is not so different to our reality. Like in the movie, we have also been placed in this world that we question. Why are we here? How did we get here? Is there an exit? The only difference between the cube and reality is that inour world, an escape is not essential. We have everything we need to survive, whereas in the cube, they were placed with absolutely nothing.

I very much enjoyed this movie. I found it well done in every aspect and made you think outside of our reality cube.

Freaky

why do Canadian films paint such dark pictures. Don;t get me wrong as this film was well done, but the idea of being one relatively one place and with one false move, you be not only dead, but mutilated just gives off a bad taste in my mouth. like "we live in canada so there is no hope" kinda feeling.
