Panic Room

(United States, 2002) With Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker and Jared Leto. Directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club). Category : Horror . Length : 1:52. Classification : 13 and over

Movie description :
Hot-shot director Fincher ("Fight Club") puts his brain on a shelf with this urban thriller about a newly divorced woman and her daughter assailed in their home by a trio of determined would-be thieves. The themes of paranoia and of common people tested by uncommon circumstances are Fincher mainstays. But the script doesn't have much to say on these and other issues. The film is slick, but vacant.

A Bit Dopey but still Entertaining

Well you've just moved. A lot of work to do but hey it's worth with. Well that'sa until a bunch of baddies decide to have their own open house. Luckily for the new occupants, a panic room is there for them to find refuge in.

Crazy you say. You're right but Jodie Foster is the type of actress that can make anything look good! Add a little comic relief from the Whitaker (the not so bad bad guy!) and you got yourself a thriller.

If you play along Panic Room is good escapist entertainment and might you think twice before renovation your den!

A claustrophobic's nightmare!

Panic Room is a thriller that stars Jodie Fisher as a divorced mother who ends up in the panic room of her new house as burglars break in. The panic is a sort of reinforced bunker with video cameras of almost every inch of the house. They are trapped in the room, but what they don't know is that the money that the burglars are trying to steal is actually in that room. Jodie Foster does a pretty good job with the movie considering that it is very limiting. If you think about it, the movie occurs almost entirely within the house and predominantly in the tiny room. Foster lives up to her reputation as a good actor by being both primal and motherly in this film. In contrast, the three actors that play the robbers are like a joke. I can't take them serious enough to be scary. Panic Room isn't a ground-breaking kind of movie and is entirely forgettable, however it is still enjoyable the first time that you see it around. It is suspenseful and worth seeing once.

Decent

Panic Room is a decent, but not amazing suspense thriller. Maybe my perception is skewed because when I watched it, it was part of Mix Movies in the Park, and I was sitting in a very uncomfortable position on the grass with multiple heads shaping the outline of the screen and blocking about 30% of my view, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. Jodie Foster is a good actress, and there were some intense moments, but it doesn't exactly stand out for me.

The Good Thief

Even criminals have consciences. When Meg Altman and her daughter quickly snap up an immense multi-story mansion in Manhattan I thought it was much too large for the two of them taking too much time and effort to maintain with no live-in help. It would have been worthwhile to rent the rooms or even set up quarters for battered women. When the three criminals invade the house after midnight to get the money in the safe they are surprised to find the people already tucked in bed and mostly finished with the unpacking. The mother and daughter quickly retreat to the panic room. It is the likeable Burnham who thinks up the best plans to get access to the safe. His dumb partners are constantly arguing about strategy and the cut each one will get. The safe expert drills a hole in the ventilation pipe and pipes in propane but the accomplices overdo it and a spark causes an explosion that burns Junior's arm. Meg finds a phone and wires into the grid calling 911 and her ex-husband before the bad guys rip out the main console in the basement. When the ex-husband arrives he is brutally beaten up and a switch of clothes fools Meg into venturing out of the panic room. Burnham and Raoul get inside and with sophisticated drilling equipment find over 20 million in bearer bonds. Burnham having a kind heart injects the girl with a syringe saving her life. When Burnham is safely out of the house he returns to kill Raoul who is just about to kill Meg. The extra time prevents him for making a clean getaway allowing the police to catch him and as he outstretches his arms the valuable certificates get blown about in the wind. What suspense and what drama

Excellent psychological thriller!

The panic room was a riveting movie. It made you feel as though you were in the movie. The film maintains its thrill and interest till the last scene... Jodie Foster once again showed her fans she is a true action hero, and a fierce woman taking on those low down dirty scoundrouls. And the scene where Jodey Foster returns the thieves action by igniniting the gass and blowing them out' was the best of all scenes. The main characters are truly convincing in their acting as they work out such an interesting situation -it surely demands good acting skills and a good management of cameras and timing in order to carry out all that film just within four walls!!! This is just another masterful show of creativity!!! I had thoroughly enjoyed the whole film.

Shook me up...

I had seen this movie on VHS when it first came out and last night switching channels I noticed it was on TV so I started watching it thinking that this time it wouldn't affect me the same way as the first. I was the one who stayed up to watch it as everyone said "goodnight". well let me tell you I kept shaking I was so scared for Jodie and Kristen of what would happen next, how would they come out of this one. I had forgotten bits and pieces of the movie was good to watch it again.

Decent Suspense film

I had never heard of the term Panic room or known that such a thing existed before seeing this film.

Panic Room tells the story of a single mother (played by Jodie Foster) who moves into a big new place but is soon forced into hiding in the house's "Panic Room" when intruders break into her house. Drama and suspense ensue as we wait to see what exactly the burglars are looking for. Panic sets in when we learn that the item they are seeking is actually inside the room. oh no....

I think that Jodie Foster is a Class A actress and I enjoyed this film somewhat but I don't think that I will watch it again. While the acting was great the story did become a bit dull at times and the ending was not all that earth shattering.

If you're in the mood for a fairly decent mother-daughter suspense film then you might like this one; otherwise stay clear

Suspenseful Film

David Fincher is one of the best directors in Hollywood. He has made so many good film in his career that it is so hard to keep track. The first time I watched "Seven" and "Fight Club" I was amazed by how this director uses the deep focus shot and how strange his stories are and especially the characters. Panic Room is an excellent film that has many suspenseful scenes and we fear for the safety of Jodie's Foster character and her daughter. The ultimate shock comes mid way through the film when the villains turn against each other. I recommend that you watch Panic Room and rent the other DAVID Fincher films I mentioned above.

Edge of your Seat Thriller

Panic room is a film that will leave you at the edge of your seat because it is very suspenseful film that has a lot of dark and disturbing moments. The film sixty minutes of this film is exciting and you are afraid for the Jodie Foster character and her daughter. This film has many elements and you don't know what's going to happen next. The plot in "Panic Room" is original and I have never seen a story like this being told on film. Panic Room is very tense at all times and Forrest Whitaker gives the most brilliant performance of his career.

PANIC ROOM- COULD DO BETTER THAN THAT!!

How can you go wrong with a movie in which you have Jodie Foster cast as the main character?- well, it's not her nor the story that's wrong with this movie - it's the two bumbling idiots that play the thieves in this movie that are more like the keystone cops instead of professionals. I think Forest Whitaker carried himself extremely well as the brains of this gang of thieves but the other 2 left much to be desired. You had a fine script, a great plot of a woman & her daughter just moved into a mansion with all its electronic gizzmos trying to eluded this gang but it couldn't be carried out to the full extent of what a mystery plot is all about. Too bad, because this story had quite a good potential ... but to give it some justice, it is worth a rental.

Terrifying reality?

This was a good movie based on it's story of a mother and a daughter moving into a big house and getting uninvited guests right after their move. But it was kinda boring watching a movie that was shot in just one place - their house. I can't complain storywise, as this situation is something we can connect with in real life.

I'd give it 2 fair stars.

What A Story!

This is a all around great film. Jodi Foster gives a great performance and the little girl who plays her daughter looks just like her. I think what makes this film great is the plot and the acting. I like the panic room I wish I had a panic room in my house. I like it when the robbers wanted to rob the house and get the 25 million dollars in currency money. I recommend you to go see this film.

Good Thriller!

The movie "Panic Room" is a good pyschological thriller. Th escript and characters were well written and believable but the ending is predictable from the beginning.

Jodie Foster, one of my favorite actress, is terrific in this movie. She does a great job as the heroine starting off being scared with her new life but comes together when she fights for her daughter and herself. She has a lot of screen time and a lot of the time , the movie is spent in the panic room. I felt very tense wondering what would happen next with some very entertaining moments in the movie.

All the other performances were top-notch.

I found the movie"Panic Room" to be a very enjoyable movie.

Foster at her best

This was a very good movie, but alot of the action was already shown in the trailers. I loved the 'edge-of-your-seat' entertainment! Kristen Stewart and Jodie Foster really acted wonderfully!

This film can be known to be a great film by observing it's many elements that make it a good time at the movies. Fincher terrorizes the audience and nobody will ever feel completely secure about their home's safety after watching this movie.

A definite must see, Jodie Foster is at her best!

Very good!

I haven't see Jodie in a good film in a long time (Foxes in 1979 I believe). I found her character very believeable albeit a little cold toward her offspring in the film. Jared Leto was good as one of the bad guys. No wonder he plays in a rock band...lol. I did like the idea of the room and in the way she fights back against the robbers.

Not Bad

Panic Room was an okay movie for me. I really enjoyed Jodie Foster in this movie. She is an excellent actress. I was sitting on the edge of the couch through this movie, I even was a little scared after it finished as I live alone with my daughter and I started to imagine things were going to happen just like the movie. A good thriller to watch.

Foster trapped!

Excellent thriller, this movie was Jodie Foster at her best. Like any worth watching thriller, this movie really keeps you at your seat. Most of the action takes place in a limited part of the house, but trust me it doesnt get boring. You cannot hardly wait as the story unfolds itself. I always enjoy watching Jodie Foster but really in this one, she was impressive!

Sorta scary

I liked this movie. But it's the kind of movie you forget about 2 hours later. It has some thrills. But really, how far can you go with most of the action taking place in one room? It limits things, and that's what happens here. Some of it is also far fetched. It's worth a rental, or watch it on late night tv.
