Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

(United States, United Kingdom, 2007) With Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Jason Isaacs, Rupert Grint. Directed by David Yates Category : Tantsy. Classification : General

Movie description :
The fifth installment in the Potter series is likely the most coherent translation from the books thus far. Harry is suitably morose and self-pitying and the adventurous hijinks don't overshadow the story unduly. Good fun.

Mostly Magical

Consistency oddly both enhances and takes away from the Harry Potter experience. Like the books, the films have a built-in structure that allows for them to not bother with coming up with fresh ways to start and finish each film. A new academic year at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry begins and ends with the film following suit. While this familiar structure doesn't allow for surprise, it is the adventures the take place between these two bookends that define each film. And despite a new rule of conservative values and repression falling upon Hogwart's, it is the constantly appreciative and awed faces of Harry, his few friends, his professors and the legions of fans watching that make HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX one of the most solid in the series. Being a part of one of the most successful film and literary phenomenon of all time has not jaded a single player in the least. Doing justice to a lushly imaginative world without making itself into something more serious than it is and managing to have fun while working hard has allowed Harry & co. to find a comfortable, satisfying stride.

So much emotion is forced inside throughout this film, it is exhilarating and liberating by the time the climax comes and all is finally unleashed. It's an awful lot like being in the head of an adolescent. HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX also manages its own magic by cramming the longest book from the Potter series into the shortest running time of any of the films while maintaining all the elements necessary to make the story whole. Weaving in layers of thematic insight and giving more depth to Mr. Potter himself brings the film from magical to meaningful. And after five installments, bringing something new to the spell without ruining the recipe or changing the consistency is a pretty impressive trick unto itself.

Order puts Harry movie series back on the map

A lot of critics are mentioning that with the current release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that the movie blockbuster franchise has lost its magic, that the feeling we all had when we first viewed the Sorcerer's Stone has completely evaporated and I'm here to confirm that these statement are totally false.

The movie major addition to the franchise is Academy Award nominee Imelda Staunton and Helena Bonham Carter as Dolores Umbridge and Bellatrix Lestrange respectively but I'll be focusing on Staunton's character as she absolutely steals the thunder away from every actor in the movie. She clearly demonstrates that her Oscar nomination in 2005 for Vera Drake was no fluke when she carried that movie as well. Throughout the movie, we laugh & hate Umbridge perfectly. As for Snape's fans don't worry Alan Rickman's character is still grand and I personally find quite amusing and combining both Rickman & Staunton's character makes being bad so good.

The major knock of the movie falls on the lap of director David Yates. David who? My thoughts exactly. His major work was 2005 The Girl in the Café (starring Bill Nighy) which was nominated for an Emmy in the Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special category. That's right this guy was able to sign a two Harry Potter movie deal without ever filming a single feature film for the silver screen. Without giving out anything to those who hasn't seen it, but let's mention for the fans who read the book already at that climax scene of the movie the shot is absolutely laughable and very amateur like. The editing throughout the movie also demonstrates Yates lack of experience. His scenes do not transition well and certainly lacks a flow between them.

While I personally enjoyed the first entries in the world of Harry Potter, the Order of Phoenix (which ironically was my least favorite book) is the movie that brings back some life in the franchise after two disappointing entries.

The best one so far? Maybe! I loved them all

I saw the new instalment of the Harry Potter at the IMAX screen and boy was it awesome!!! The sound, the picture quality and the couple of the scenes in 3D (like the ones where they pick up Harry to the Order of the Phoenix, and the fight at the Ministry of Magic) were super cool. I must say when the 2 hour mark came and the movie soon ended I was quite bummed out- I could have watched 2 more hours and I am sure so would have everyone else in that theatre. I mean, I know they can't put everything from the book in the movie, but if the Lord of the Rings can be 3.5 hours so should Harry Potter- especially for the books that have over 700 pages. That said, I must admit I never read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the size was simply intimidating) and now I regret it because I am sure I would have followed the story even better had I read the book.

Another cool thing was to see how everyone has grown up- Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and the twins, Neville and etc- they all look soo different from 2001 when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone first came out. It is surely fun to watch them all grow and change through the movies as if it was in real life...

And to simply wrap it up I shall say- the movie was awesome and I cannot wait for the next 2!

Harry Potter

This movie started off with a bang but slowly turned around to disappoint me, although the graphics and acting was good the story had a touch of cheesiness to it that made it hard to watch, the movie had its up and downs, but next time I'll settle for reading the book.

Flagrate!

Hermione was supposed to use that spell in the departement of mysteries. But she didn't. Marietta was supposed to give away the location of the DA. But it was Cho. There were many little things like that but if they would've put everything it would've been a 7 hour movie. Which would've been super cool but it seems they can't. Anyway.

The movie was great. I think it's probably the best way they could've done it apart from it being word for word by the book. The acting was awesome. Luna came in as the unknown but you really knew who she was by the end of the movie. Neville also shined in this one. Not enough of the credit went to Evanna Lynch and Matthew Lewis! They were amazing. The dementors attack was really good, Mrs. Figg was kinda... weird. She was supposed to be mad, she was more like spaced out. Daniel was great too. The DA meeting were really like i had imagined it, i'm glad there was more than one scene of them. Also a way they subtletly put everything that was in the book into the movie was by those little Daily Prophets that would come on screeen every once and awhile to tell the people what was going on. Good idea. And how could i forget Snape. He was amazing and funny. "I may vomit" he says after going through Harry's memories of happinness. David Thewlis as Remus Lupin. ONE line. Come on. He better have more in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hollows. Gary Oldman was also great as Sirius Black. It was a great character that i will miss.

The best part of the movie was obviously the Dumby-Voldy showdown. It was really intense and it was way better than the Voldy-Harry fight in Goblet of fire because there weren't those weird lightsaber sounds. It was really an exciting scene. Ralph Fiennes is really amazing as the Dark Lord. This was my favourite of the series so far but of course i say that every movie but this one was really good.

If you didn't see it, go see it now! Let the magic fill you.

More and More Difficult to make People Love a New Potter Movie

The fifth Harry Potter movie... Hope it is as good as before. I think it has become more and more difficult to make people love a new Potter movie, because people have been very familiar with this series of movies and seen many many technical action skills, and because the actors grow up... Hope the story can be very well told... Anyway, I will go to see the movie because I am a big fan of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter

I have seen every other Harry Potter movie and read all the books. I can't wait to see the movie. My 5 year old is a Harry Potter Freak he has seen every movie so far a billion times (exaggeration) and he owns every Harry Potter game for Gamecube, Playstation 2 and even for Gameboy. We will definitely be taking him to see Order of the Phoenix when it comes out.

BRINGING THE KIDS TO SEE POTTER

I can't wait for this movie.not that I want see it but my kids are driving me crazy about it. When is coming? How many days? Is it here yet? can we go now? MAN WAITING FOR CHRISTMAS WAS EASY. But when they seen the preview that was it(COO-COO FOR COO-COO PUFFS AROUND HERE)i HOPE THIS IS THE LAST 1 BECAUSE I DON'T THINK I CAN TAKE ANOTHER POTTER MOVIE. Not that the movies were bad but the waiting is a killer.besides like all the big movies this summer. It will make tonnes of money (BUT WHAT MOVIE WILL MAKE THE MOST? SPIDEY, PIRATES OR POTTER?) I THINK IT WILL BE CLOSE.

The Dark Side

Order of the Phoenix is the dark side of Harry Potter. It might be the hardest book to make a movie about because it's so long. Quite fortunately, by the time this one on the Big Screen, the seventh book will be almost on shelves in every good Librairie. You already know that those who will see the fifth movie will be expecting the book about a week later. Those who will pick up the seventh book will want to see the movie once they are done with the book. Basically, you can't really lose if you're producing the movie, publishing the book, writting it, etc. Harry Potter's now officially a money press machine and there is no real limit how much they can print.

We might have to see something else in Daniel Radcliffe than a child actor with this one. Harry does have to be really emotional and intense in Order of the Phoenix. It could be hard for David Yater to bring up to the screen the emotion the characters are feeling. Of course you already know what you won't like about the movie. They can't possibly put all the book in a two hours movie. So they'll cut these moment you were expecting to see and they'll arrange it so it works in the end. Fans will be upset, but they still will be expecting the sixth movie and the seventh one, no matter what they do with this one.

Can't Wait To See..

This book was by far my favorite and also the darkest from 1 to 5, but that is expected and they do keep getting darker. I'm interested in how they'll manage to do everything that's mentioned in the book and other little details. So far all the movies have managed to stay with the book, even though they leave some of my favorite and sometimes what I feel to be crucial parts.

I really can't wait to see the battles between I will not mention and in general, I just can't wait!

Yeah for Harry..

one of the great things about the harry potter books/movies, is perhaps that it's got kids reading again... it's a great story and brilliantly written and translates to film with all the adventure, imagination and magical mystery possible... so, while we're all awaiting the next film installation in the next chapter of harry potter, most of the kids have already got ahead start on us and have read the book.. and that's a great thing.

Pins and Needles

Okay I have read all the books, own all the movies and yes I know every last detail of Harry's world...but come on- it's great fun. Of course this movie is going to kick some serious a@*. It had better because there will be a lot of really upset people if it doesn't. Granted there has been things left out or changed when brought to the big screen but all in all these movies are fantastic. If you haven't read the books then you don't miss what's missing. My fiance hasn't read any of them but he knows the movies backwards and forwards. Great books make great movies, and this was an awesome book- it's just that simple. I can't wait for this one, of course, I can't wait for any of the remaining books/movies!

Harry Potter the fifth

i find that the movies have been going downhill... the first movie was what got me into harry potter but after that, it was like this: the second movie was really good. the third was good, the forth killed the movies for me. it was horrible. it didnt really follow the books guidelines. example: it was supposed to be dobby who gives harry the weed to harry, not nevil. and other things where in the book but not the movie. i am not looking forward to the fifth movie but i will go see it because im a harry potter fan. i wont be surprised if many people are disappointed.

What's the over/under on the reviewer trashing this movie?

If it's the too-cool-for-the-room-filled-with-children-and-their-parents critic who did "Goblet of Fire", I'd say the odds are about even. Considering the solid and rabid fanbase for these movies, who exactly would any review benefit?

A sure value.

As long as they keep re-signing the three main actors (for Harry, Hermione and Ron), I believe that the Potter movies are a sure success. The first four were incredible and very close to the books. I know that the true fans have often complained about some differences, but I think that it is very normal when adapting a book to make a movie.

I am very confident that this fifth movie will again give life to all the things that we have imagined reading the books... and I pray that Daniel Radcliff does not get sick of playing Harry Potter before the seventh movie is done!

Harry #5

this one will be a heartbreaking movie. the book itself was so emotional. this movie will answer so many questions, and it raise other questions not asked. hold on to your heart, another crazy ride is coming upon us. Don't forget Voldemort is back...therefore the movie will be filled with darkness. This one will be a must see.

The suspense is killing me!

This may sound like every other Potter fan out there, but I seriously cannot wait for this movie to come out! Just like I'm impatiently waiting for the final book to complete the series (even though it's gonna be a sad sad day when I finish reading that one), I'm just giddy thinking about this latest Potter sequel. It's one of the darkest and saddest (for reasons which I cannot reveal) books in the series and I can't wait to see how it will be presented on screen. The young actors really evolved and are doing a much better job now, and of course you can't beat the incredible style of the films that brought the intricate Potter world to life. Looking forward to it!

Where have I been?

I think i;m perhaps the only person in this world who has yet to read a harry potter book, or see any of the movies. I just can't get into this kinda stuff. Or maybe I just don;t want to. In any case, I feel like i must be missing out on a hell of a lot if I even see adults on the metro reading these novels. This must be like movie #4 for good ol Harry, and i have yet to see #1. Somehow, someday, I hope to add to this bandwagon and go ga-ga for Harry Potter.

Loving Harry Potter

Woohoo! I love Harry Potter and I love seeing the movies because they bring the books to life. I love the special effects and the whole idea of the story. And the movie is said to be released on June 15th 2007 two days before my birthday so I think I know what I'll be doing for my birthday... I just hope that the films continue to do justice to the books.

The *original* pre-emptive critique of..."Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"

This is pretty much academic folks. You will watch it and you will love it because most of you know the characters and the stories like the palm of your muggle hand. If there's one shoe-in film franchise then this is the one that laid the golden egg.

<>

If you've read the Harry Potter series then you know that by the time we reach this book that the very illusion that this series was meant for kids flies right out the window. J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' is a dark, dark romp that's more likely to frighten little children than fill their hearts with glee. Out of respect for those that haven't read this book yet (what are you waiting for?!) I'm not going to say much other than things get grim here. As the kids in the book grow older so does the series. So far the Harry Potter series has been blessed by great directors and wicked bits of casting so unless Lord Voldemort cast a hex this movie ought to stand right next to all the others as another solid cinematic installment of J.K. Rowling's magical saga.

A beloved fan

Upcoming: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I've just finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince and let me tell you that at this rate there's no way that these movies will stay Rated G or even PG. So far the HP movies have been great but I think that HP7 will be the sort of movie that parents won't be able to take little children to. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is itself a pretty dark book so I really hope that the director doesn't back down and do the book justice. I can't wait to see it.

Harry Potter

I don't know about the movie but the book was very interesting and had many things happening. I know this sounds very nerdy, but I loved the book SO much, I was planning to read it again (but I don't have much time on my hand but I'll read it again someday...)! I have a friend that loves Harry Potter so much, she read the 6th book in two days! I like the book too but not THAT much... But it was an alright movie and I cant wait 'till the 7th book comes out and I cant wait 'till the 5th movie comes out. A lot happens and as you might already know, it's not as great as the 4th movie (because that was a superb movie, fantastic!) but it's really interesting and very amazing!

Harry Potter and the teen angst

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix is the latest of the Teen Wizard`s movies. The book has him being fairly normal as a teenager. He rebels, is angery at himself and others as he is misunderstood. It is a descent towards evil that is an intresting idea in the series.

It will have spectaluar special effects, good actors and more of a darker tone than the other films. A Must for all Muggles who love the series.

Potter Preview

Wow, the fifth Harry Potter novel already on the big screen by next year. The award winning books are amazing and so are the films, for those who love to read, I suggest you read the Harry Potter novels. Now the movies are good, but the novels are superb.

Darker then ever.

I've liked this book more then every others. It clearly makes the transition between Harry the kid and Harry the teeanager. It starts bad and keep spiraling downward all the way to the bottom before coming back up again... Just like every teenager, he feels underappreciated, and his full of anger, always feeling out of the loop, expected to behave like an adult, and still not trusted as one. I am sure again that the movie will not be as good as the book, like most movies. But I am still hoping for a good one for this one. I surely hope the actors will be able to deliver the performance it will need to be as ggod as the book.
