Show & Tell: George Michael - Web exclusive!

George Michael at the Bell Centre, July 18
Richard Burnett

Even all the straight boys were dancing

After selling 80 million records worldwide, including 10 number ones in America, the George Michael faithful have been waiting a long time for this tour - it's been 17 years, in fact, since his last go-round. And Michael did not disappoint, wowing a packed Bell Centre with a breathtaking arena stage that is essentially one big video screen, including the stage floor. It was massive.

Michael sang all the hits, from a remix of I'm Your Man (no irony here), Father Figure (no "Who's your daddy?" irony intended here either) and Everything She Wants to a gospel-style One More Try.

Michael began his second set with Faith, then sang Roxanne (outperforming the god-awful jazz version The Police themselves did on their recent reunion tour), Amazing (dedicated to his long-time partner, Dallas art-gallery owner Kenny Goss), Flawless (Go to the City) and, sporting shades and a cop uniform, sang the hell out of Outside, which lampoons
his April 1998 arrest in a Beverly Hills public toilet.

Michael then returned for two encores, Careless Whisper and a rainbow-soaked version of his anthemic Freedom 90 which even had all the straight guys in the audience dancing.
