There is a signature between the hisses, the shushes, the vibrating atmospherics. It's got Lopez's name on it, and by now it's almost unmistakable. Although this is only his third record for alien8 (a penchant for pure soundscapes has driven him to release countless recordings), even a comparison of only those releases yields this visionary's distinct didactic approach. Lopez's message comes in the forced-feeding of aural details; it is necessary to chew up the music in order to get at the insides. And so, on this one like the others, the word is clear: Don't listen to listen, listen to learn. Only then will you hear it all. (Ilana Kronick)
