Keshia Chante - (Vik Recordings/BMG)

S/T
Jessica Linnay

The Ottawa native who made her debut alongside T.O.'s hip-pop persona, Sean Desman, has since been on heavy rotation with her own solo hits. With cutesy bubblegum R&B pop, and singsong ballads of puppy lovin', Keshia fits in nicely with today's little-girl-so-grown mainstream trend. Her voice carries this type of tune well and although her artistry probably ends there, someone knows what they're doing. And hey, it's good to see Ottawa on any map.

Keshia Chante- Keshia Chante

Out of everything in Ottawa to make out in to the national spotlight, did it really have to be a 16 year old, manufactured pop diva?

I don't understand why we should support her, just because she's 'Canadian' or from Ottawa. There is nothing special about this, other then it's crap from Orleans. Her music is forgettable, she has little charisma, and her vocals are a dime a dozen. I don't mean to be harsh, but I would rather have something with soul, then these! Unfortunately my little cousin doesn't, and enjoys torturing me with this album.

Bottomline, she needs some major work, if she expects to survive her 15 minutes!

Zoodles or Alphagetti

A lot of cutesy screaming teeny boppers will go for this music. It's pretty "safe", catchy... the Britney set could karaoke it easily enough. The kid can sing. I'll give her that. It's unfortunate that either she or perhaps her marketing machine don't see her as anything but a 1 dimensional figure like Britney Spears and the other boy band/girl pop singer offerings we have to endure these days.

Man! When are we going to be fed some real music? I'm tired of sugar coated crap. I hate the idea that the marketing moguls think that the record buying public (particularly young buyers) are vapid and don't need to hear from artists who have something legit to say. It's enough for them if the artist (and I use that term loosely) has something to wiggle or flash and has a face that looks good on magazine covers and MTV.

*sigh* Did I die and go to the bad place? All these new acts are the same, Miss Chante included, in my humble opinion.

Props to you, young girl!

Keshia Chante has managed to have a pretty good career f or a young 16 year-old candadian chick. Her songs are played quite often on the radio and on TV, and they're actually pretty popular. Of course, the thing with teenage singers is that they can never really been taken super seriously because of their young age. I'm sure if Keshia was a little older, or at least looked a little older, she would be twice as popular, just look at other singers who are approximately the same age (Rihanna, Joss Stone). They are all 17-18-19 but look and act way older than that!

Anyways, I think that girl can definitely sing...one day I was listening to a new song from her on the radio and first I thougt it was Christina Aguilera!! So I'm definitely not hating on her like I tend to do with other youngsters her age because the girl's actually got talent and doesn't dance half-naked in her videos in order to sell CDs. I definitely respect her for that.

Gooo Keshia!!

I think Keshia Chante is a good preformer.. she also ACCUALLY SINGS LIVE!! not like Britney Spears Or Hilary Duff... Keshia's got TALENT... Shes got a LOT of it.. and shes only 16!! I really think that Shawn Desman knew what he was doing with her and really got her going.. Now the only thing that needs to happen is that she blows up in the states... and then this girl will be soooo famous.. she is soooo awesome I deffinitly look up to her.. Im really proud of her.. shes also my age too.. she's a REAL POWERHOUSE...

Canadian , Eh!

It is good to hear some Canadian artists make a go of some R&B music. There are not make Canadian artists in this genre and I think Keshia Chante does a decent job.

She is very young but her music is very catchy and has a good beat. If you want to dance or ride in your car with your head bobbing pick up this cd. Her song Bad Boy is in heavy rotation on the radio and I am sure we will be hearing a few more songs from her.

Us Canadians should go out and support our own.
