Catherine Potter - (Shadaj)

Duniya Project
Steve Guimond

Bansuri (Indian flute) player Catherine Potter leads this truly one-of-a-kind Montreal project, a coming together of the city's finest musicians from an array of divergent circles. The package is produced by electro-jazz whiz Ramachandra Borcar and takes a modern look at traditional Indian music, tabla and flute-driven instrumentals. The songs incorporate the lineage of this particular rhythm section - experimental jazzbos, free and more contemporary, Nicholas Caloia (double bass) and Thom Gossage (drums) - adding their flair for improvisation, groove and the unknown to it all.

(((My Two Cents))) - Catherine Poter Creates Something New

In the past, I have heard some of Catherine Potter's work and I absolutely loved it. Once more, Catherine Potter has impressed me with his great album which he did with a myriad of other great musicians. On this album, Catherine assembled a group of great musicians and createdt an amazing jazz yet experimental album. Perfect timing as well as the Jazz Festival is fast approaching. The album, as was mentioned in the above article, presents a more modern version of traditional Indian music. To be absolutely honest, I am not the biggest fan of Indian music and I am not extremely knowledgeable on all of the instruments that are used, but I do know this; Catherine Potter has creates albums that I enjoy!
