My Two Brookes is indie rock that feels like rock, not like what some hipster blog says rock is. It sounds like Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth and the Pixies formed one big band and did a rejected original soundtrack for Reality Bites. It feels old. Good old. Sweaty. John Renton has one of those I-can't-sing voices that sounds too (fake) passionate, but because it feels right, it's forgivable. At its best when coming loud, wild and untamed (say, the closing hat trick of Liz Pavle, Moscow Bride and the sludgy Academia, which is my current earworm), The Inevitable Backlash is worth the hype.
