There's something bolder and more assertive about this second outing by singer/songwriter Alison Sudol, whose 2007 One Cell in the Sea debut was an attention grabber. Instead of opening with wistful ballads, Sudol ups the pace and takes control of centre stage. With such upbeat numbers like New Heights and Electric Twist, A Fine Frenzy sounds more like a band than simply a singer with backup musicians. After two years of touring, Sudol has grown into a performer who understands the pacing of presentation. And, of course, there are several breathy ballads, like Happier and Swan Song, that remind us of Sudol's exquisite debut showcasing her ethereal vocals and eloquent piano accompaniments.
