Kurt Nilsen - (BMG)

I
Brendan Murphy

I didn't watch World Idol on TV because it aired Christmas Day and, no, the family didn't gather 'round to watch Nilsen win the big Simon Cowell booby prize. In case you think I'm just being a cynic, it really is that awful. He sounds like a bad version of Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida. Yeah, a bad version. There isn't a standout single on the entire album, which sounds as though it was randomly generated by some sort of pop music supercomputer with reprehensible taste. He won, someone told me, because he had the voice of an angel and the body of a hobbit, which, for my money, doesn't seem any different than winning for being the best looking. The only solace I take from this is that Nilsen, like every other Idol winner, will never be able to escape its crass stigma and become a serious artist.

Nilsen, hobbit or not, is worth a second look!

This article does not do justice to the power that came out of Kurt Nilsen on the World Idol stage. I have kept track of the North American Idol and voted to crown Ryan Malcolm the Canadian Idol, but hands down Kurt deserved the World title. No he doesn't look like Brad Pitt, but who cares? He has a voice that will carry him to high heights!

Way to go Kurt!

Definitely the best

I have read a lot of reviews of "I", and most of them are very very nice (With a lot of As). I ordered the album a long time ago and I love it. I listen to it every day. Now I am looking forward to hear "Beautiful day", which will be on the international version of "I"! I know it will be wonderful!!!

I can not take this review seriously, because it is obvious that you have not listened to this lovely album.

Do not understand how somebody can say that he can not sing. The reason why he won was and is because he has a really good voice. He is just himself and did not dress up like a doll in the competition. He is an average man and that is what I like about him.

I would like to recommend Kurt's band, Fenrik Lane, they are great!

Kurt Nilsen - The World Idol

How can people write here that Kurt doesn't sing good? Man, you guys can't even have listened to his album, or his singing. He is by far one of the best singers I've ever heard. And yeah, Bono would cry if he heard Kurt sing his song: Cry in JOY! Kurt sings the song even better then Bono ever did!!!

And someone here said that Kurt needs to practice more before putting out an album? Kurt has been singing even before he learned how to talk norwegian - he sang english songs when he was 2 years old. And no, he should not give out an album in his native language- Norwegian! Kurt speaks perfect English - like every other Norwegian! (In Norway they start to learn english when they are 7-8 years old!) So my point here is: Please know what you are talking about before you talk about it! LISTEN to his album, his voice and the beautiful songs: He's the Man!

Please

I'm still baffled that anyone takes any of this stuff seriously. A talent competition? C'mon people. If you really want talent, do a little work for it - go out to Barrymores or Rasputins or Zaphods or whatever happens to be your taste. Listen to and support some truly talented and gifted artists. You won't see any glamorous productions, but you will get honest emotion and passion and energy, and you'll be sharing it with your neighbours. You'll be making your own choices for World Idol.

The unassuming hobbit wins across the board ousting the overconfident American and Brit.

I will have to admit that I was one of those people watching the "World Idol" on Christmas day. As I was deciding on my votes it became quite clear as to who the winner of this competition would in fact be; or to be more specific who did the promoters of this contest believe should win the contest? From my point of view the promoters felt that the American Kelly Clarkson or the British Guy (honestly can't remember his name, but he did a horrible rendition of The Doors - Light my fire - I'm still having nightmares.) I obviously would have liked Ryan Malcolm to win the competition and he did his best, but when I heard Kurt Nilsen and his rendition of U2's - A beautiful day. I truly believed he deserved the winning of World Idol. Kurt's persona may not fit everyone's idea of what a World Idol should look like, but really who are we to judge? Kurt the hobbit of middle-earth and Father to his children won the "World Idol" and I was very happy for him.

Open up your eyes!!

Who can say that Kurt Nilsen doesn't have talent and an excellent voice?? He's an amazing singer, and he's got the most unbelievable personality ever! He takes soo good care of his fans, you can't even imagine! And he's having great success in Norway and other European countries! To those of you who haven't bought his new album A Part of Me: Do it!! It's amazing!=)

Kurt Who ?

I know won Kurt Nilsen is, he's the guy that beat Kelly Clarkson in the World Idol competition. But what did that win actually meant for him and is career. Nothing really special around here anyway. He got two C.D. out in Canada and the U.S. and both of them didn't sell. Neither the Canadian or American idol show acknowledge him has being the World idol. Last year on American Idol, they didn't even invite him to do a performance on their season finale, the brought the guy from Australia that finish in 9th place in the world idol competition.

So the morale of the story is that nobody remember or care about the world idol competition or remember who won it.
